RRC Requirements:
Regularly scheduled didactic sessions;
a) A variety of teaching methods may be used for residents to achieve the cognitive knowledge, psychomotor skills, interpersonal skills, professional attitudes, and practical experiences and competence required of physicians in the care of
patients and families.
b) Didactic as well as clinical learning opportunities must be provided as part of the curriculum, but the majority of time for any required experience should be clinical. Although lectures and workshops are helpful and may be required to supplement learning, residency experiences should include direct practice experience to enable residents to learn how to implement principles learned in the didactic curriculum.
c) Conferences
(1) Conferences should reflect the needs of the program and the residents. At least one faculty should attend each conference given by residents, and residents must not be the majority of presenters.
Each program must have the following:
(a) an educational rationale for use of conferences for the program;
(b) a statement on how conferences are evaluated and how the resultant data are used by the program; and,
(c) an explanation of resident involvement in conference design and presentations.
Description of Rotation or Educational Experience:
Didactic conferences are an important supplement to the education obtained while providing patient care. The faculty strive to provide education in all activities and direct patient care experience is the most important aspect of a resident’s education. The didactic structure is designed to provide resident education that supplements and reinforces what is being taught in the clinic and in the hospital. The didactics include lectures, case based presentations, workshops, journal club, M&M, ECHO presentations and Tumor Board.
Expectations:
Residents:
The residents are expected to have at least a 75% attendance at Friday Afternoon Conferences. The residents are also responsible to present a entire Friday Afternoon Conference once a month. Three topics should be presented, selected from the core conference list below.
Faculty:
All faculty should attend all conferences as permitted by patient care and medical staff responsibilities. There will always be at least one faculty member present at all conferences.
Patient Care
Goal
Residents must be able to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of health. This curriculum is intended to supplement the educational component of Patient care.
Competencies

The Residents will:
Participate in procedure workshops in order to gain appropriate knowledge and skills of the procedure prior to any direct patient application.
Participate in all case-based lectures and clinical discussions
Medical Knowledge
Goal
Residents must demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, epidemiological, and social-behavioral sciences, as well as the application of this knowledge to patient care.

Practice Based Learning and Improvement

Lectures, workshops, case presentations.
Assessment Method (Residents)
All resident presentations are evaluated using the presentation evaluation forms. These are collected by the residency secretary and given to the resident and the residents’ faculty advisors. Attendance is taken at all conferences. 75% attendance is required.
Assessment Method (Program Evaluation)
All presentations are evaluated using the presentation evaluation forms. Other data including the Resident retreat evaluations, Faculty evaluations of the program, and graduate surveys are used to enhance the program.
