Description of Rotation or Educational Experience

Orientation is a four week process starting at the beginning of the first academic year of residency training at the Southern New Mexico Family Practice Residency Program. The initial three weeks consist of discussions, demonstrations, shadowing, and introductions to all appropriate areas of the clinic and hospital and to the personnel involved; the fourth week takes includes shadowing in the inpatient and outpatient areas. Those residents entering the program after the first year are oriented individually.

Expectations:

Residents:

Residents are expected to arrive on time and to dress and act in a professional manner. It is expected that the residents will be respectful of the office space and personnel.

Faculty:

Orientation is coordinated by the Academic Coordinator and the Program Director. Individual presentations are given by the Clinic Director, Head Nurse, Program Director, members of the faculty and appropriate ancillary personnel and community leaders. Shadowing is done in the hospital and clinic with upper level residents and faculty members.
